Give Them You For Christmas
The holiday season is upon us, and it is a hectic time of year right now. This is a time when for many of us our Second Lives become just that, a second life and a second thought. We may not log in as much, may neglect it some, and when we do make our presence felt often it is just to work. Our real lives and our Second Life employment can do serious damage to our virtual relationships.
Not spending enough time together is a big killer for relationships, real or virtual. It is hard to find enough time in a day to meet the needs of everything that we have going on, and often we let our spouse or loved ones slip to the side. We figure, they love us they will understand. This may work in some relationships, but it kills a lot more.
All it takes to avoid this particular relationship killer is a commitment on your part to set aside a chunk of time to ignore everything but your loved one. You don’t need to do anything fancy, you don’t need to go out dancing. Close Photoshop for fifteen minutes; leave the club, put down the prim hammer. Teleport home, sit on your couch with your spouse, and ask them about their day. It does not seem like a hard thing to do, but that simple question is often overlooked.
Set aside one night of the week to be “date night”. Do not schedule yourself for anything that night; take the time to catch up. Go dancing, explore a sim together, or go play Zyngo. There are lots of fun activities for couples to do together in the virtual world of second life. Spend a few hours at home for private time, catching up with each other. The more time you spend together when the less time you have, the stronger your relationship will be.
As you are out doing your holiday shopping and trying to figure out the perfect gift for your special someone, take a look in the mirror. The best gift you can give someone is your time. It isn’t expensive, it isn’t shiny, but it means more than all of the baubles in the world.
